Work And Pensions Secretary Thérèse Coffey Witnesses Award Winning Financial Education Taking Place Virtually At Rendlesham Primary School

Thérèse Coffey, the Secretary of State for Work and Pensions and MP for Suffolk Coastal, joined year 1 and 2 pupils from Rendlesham Primary School in Suffolk today by live video-link to witness the award-winning Kickstart Money financial education programme, delivered by the charity MyBnk.

Ms Coffey joined the class for their ‘My Futures’ session, the final of three programme sessions, and watched pupils get to grips with the importance of saving and setting financial goals for the future. They also learnt about key financial concepts such as interest, bank accounts and the need to consider risk.

“I am delighted to be able to see the KickStart Money programme in action today at Rendlesham Primary School in Suffolk Coastal. KickStart Money is a brilliant initiative, which provides vital financial education to primary school pupils at the age when money habits are first formed.

It is great to see primary pupils in my constituency get to grips with saving, budgeting and other key financial concepts, which are an important part of leading an independent adult life. It is great to see that the KickStart Money programme has continued to operate securely during the pandemic and that, through sessions such as the one I watched today, children are able to build and learn the importance of looking after your money for later life.

I look forward to seeing the KickStart Money programme come to more schools across Suffolk, to ensure more young people are equipped with the necessary financial skills to prepare for future working life.”
